Selectmen's Positions On Question One

I asked the Selectmen for their positions on Question One.

Here are their responses (so far):

Jim McCaffrey (U) - No
Moira Miller (R) - No
John Lebeaux (R) - No
Moe Depalo (D) - Refused to answer
Ben Tartaglia (U) - Refused to answer

I will update the last two if/when I get the responses.
Update: Depalo and Tartaglia refused to answer

Our selectman supported the overide and that failed. Let's hope that they are wrong again and question 1 passes.

Mark, The real question is where to the selectmen stand on Question 2?

Question 1 passing is not a good thing, I did look into it and I would not get anywhere near $3700 back in my pocket. They take an extreme and make it the norm, its a dangerous game. I don't think the state would actually implement it even if it does pass, especially in the face of budget cuts and lay offs.

What about our State Rep???

Yes, what about our state rep? A fine question, O Peanut Gallery!

I did ask Representative Karyn Polito. I have not yet heard back from her.

I don't expect she'll answer me. But I really hope she will.

In the meantime, you can ask her yourself by sending her an email at Rep.KarynPolito@hou.state.ma.us.

Mark,
Don't go holding your breath! Our State Representative will never answer a question like this in fear she could become "controversial" and make one group angry.

If it is not a walking trail, a group of law breakers in subsidized housing, or a parade then it is not worth an answer and certainly not worth a photo op.

Taking a stand is not something she fancies.

Live Shot Polito lives up to her reputation. Issues are not for her to pontificate on, but give her a ribbon cutting and she will be there. Talk about an empty suit.

Empty suit is the UNDER statement of the year, how about completely negligent in her duty to lead in difficult times!

What does she care the Polito compound lives on with its thousands of square feet.

Plenty of time to put up signs though when running unopposed. How completely self centered.

Give that money to a worthy cause other than self promotion.

How can a selectman REFUSE to answer the question? That's apalling. Voters elected Mr. Tartaglia presumably because they thought he might lead. Refusing to answer a legitimate question on where he stands on a critically important ballot question is childish. So much for change, Ben!

Well, Dee, for the record, Ben wrote to me this:

"I will be happy to discuss the question, my position, my reasoning and my solution, live on TV with the other Selectmen."

I'm not defending; just explaining.

It is curious that Ben will not divulge his position (opposition?). on this crucial issue. What is he afraid of?? Way to be a leader Ben!

A couple of weeks ago, I sent an email to our Selectman, Town Manager, a couple of School Board Members and School Super. to suggest that we need to get the word out about the impact of voting YES on #1 for the town of Shrewsbury.

Well our Chairman of the BOS Jim McCaffrey sent me what he said was a tongue in cheek response to something unrelated to my letter. And Mrs. Miller sent me a well written and professional response urging citizens to join them in the effort to get the word out about the impact of #1. She also sent me a link http://masstaxpayers.org/ and stated the BOS decision to only have an override, pending #1 passing or a disaster. She also thanked me for the question.

I would like to note that I did not send the email to Mr. Tartaglia, because I thought I knew what his thoughts would be on #1 and suggested that they might want to work on him. I also did not send it to Karen Polito, because I know she will not come out and discuss this issue.

I asked for their help because they have a better idea of the different state money we get and where it goes. I think it would be better to get word out now rather than take a gamble that an override would pass if #1 passed.

A little prevention goes a long way.
