Lebeaux Looks to Leave

Long-time selectman, John Lebeaux, is one of five finalists for the job of Town Administrator in Princeton. The Town Administrator is like a Town Manager, except on a somewhat smaller scale. I presume Lebeaux would resign from the Board of Selectmen if he took the job in Princeton. All the negotiations are going on in executive session, and they hope to hire the new guy by July 1.

Lebeaux is obviously looking for opportunities to leave his post as a Selectmen. Since he needs a job after his business closed down and his new business is a commission business as a saleman for Long Term Insurance, one could hope the best for him.

Also, his body language during the Selectmen meeting where he is sleeping half the time or "bullying" Ben, indicates that he is need of a healthy change in his life.

Thank goodness! Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Really? I know he's been a selectman for a good while and that Princeton is a smaller town but....how does running a nursery and conducting dog hearings qualify you to manage a town? I'm not trying to be mean in asking this. I just know that guys like Dan Morgado have very different skill sets than guys like John. I guess if Princeton is OK with it, then I wish him success. He's an OK guy.

I had the same thought. But I guess if Princeton is giving him a chance I am all for it as long as he isn't calling Dan Morgado for advice which would take time from Dan's duties in Shrewsbury. Maybe we should bill Princeton for Dan's time when John calls or speaks to him about Princeton issues or has town administrator questions. My guess is John will do that very thing.

Wow who's going to sleep on Moe's shoulder now?

Seriously he hasn't been into the job of Selectman for some time now..barely adds anything to the process. I think as someone else said his body language show unhappiness and it's time to move on to something that will make him happier.

Senate didn't work for him, but maybe this will....good luck I hope he gets it if it will make him happier.

Legally, must John give up his BOS seat
when he takes the job in Princeton?

I don't know where the criticism for John's allegedly sleeping at BOS meetings comes from. I'm hardly his political ally, but I've never seen anything from him that even approaches drowsiness. Say what you will, but I don't think it's fair to call him for "sleeping"

My coming to John's defense is a rare event, so while I'm here, I'll add this to the subject of his qualifications. A Town Administrator is not typically as comprehensively powerful as a Town Manager. Having been a Selectmen for almost two decades, John has gained a lot of insight into the workings of municipal administration.

I have no idea what's involved in the requirements of Princeton's Town Administrator, I'll bet John could learn a lot from Shrewsbury Asst. Town Mgr Mike Hale who recently turned down an offer to be a Town Administrator elsewhere. But right now, Mike is a direct subordinate to John, and expecting that kind of assistance from him would probably not be kosher.
